There more to a windshield than just aesthetics; it’s one of the most important (if not the most important) safety features on your car.
Think about the debris, dust, rain, snow, and you sitting in the car cabin with no windshield to protect you… Smack… Screeeccchhhh…
This blog shares some basic tips, essential practices and preventative measures to ensure your windshield stays in good working order.
Clean the windshield regularly
Dirt, dust, bug guts and weather can take a toll on your windshield’s visibility. And although, your windshield may look clean on the go, you may notice spots on it when driving, particularly in direct sunlight.
Be sure to clean your windshield regularly to avoid visibility issues. Cleaning with an auto glass cleaner and a soft microfiber towel should work fine. Avoid using shaving cream, soda and especially ammonia-based products as they can damage the glass. Also, try cleaning it away from direct sunlight, since most cleaner evaporate quickly, leaving behind ugly stains.
Clean the windshield wipers regularly
It’s not just the windshield glass that needs regular cleaning; you must also regularly clean the windshield wipers to ensure your windshield remains healthy.
Windshield wipers tend to accumulate dust and debris over time. Uncleaned windshield wipers can cause scratches on your windshield. At worst, they can even crack the glass which can lead to a permanent damage. Therefore, make a habit of cleaning the windshield wipers regularly. If during cleaning, you find the windshield wipers worn out or damaged, immediately replace them.
Don’t let a chip go unaddressed for too long
Quite often, car owners would drive with a chipped windshield. This usually happens when the chip on the windshield is too small to initially worry about.
Driving with a chipped windshield is strictly not advised. It increases risks of an accident. Moreover, a small chip unaddressed for too long can gradually spread and cover the entire surface of your windshield. If your windshield is chipped, consider heading down to the nearest repair service immediately.
