Just like any other industry, the automotive industry is no stranger to the technology takeover.  In fact, innovation is at the heart of car manufacturing.

Emergent designs have helped car manufacturers come up with so many timeless models over the years. And now that we’re stepping into the New Year, we’re excited about taking a glance at all the features that are being added to new car models.

In this blog, we’ve rounded up some new technologies associated with windshields and auto glass that might come to fruition in 2020. Read on!

Uninterrupted Visibility: Panoramic Windshield

The high-tech Tesla Model X was all the rage in the automotive industry when it was first launched in 2015. One of the main reasons for this uproar was the cutting-edge panoramic windshield. Even today, it’s recognized as the largest windshield in existence.

Panoramic windshields were designed to serve as a windshield and a sunroof. They increase the driver’s visibility of the road and improve their judgment. The glass is further layered with solar tinting to protect drivers from getting blinded by continuous exposure to sunlight.

We’re eagerly awaiting the launch of the Tesla Model Y in 2020, which is expected to be equipped with an even more advanced version of the panoramic windshield. Let’s see what Tesla has been up to for all these years!

Heated Windshields

Many popular car brands, like Mercedes Benz, Ford, BMW, and others have introduced new car models that are equipped with heated front windshields.

These windshields can defrost and defog quickly, and on their own. This makes them ideal for people living in areas that experience extreme winters. They function like heated rear screens, but the absence of black lines sets these windshields apart.

But how do they even function? Windshield manufacturers employ a network of fine, transparent heating wires that spreads across the glass lamination.  These wires are invisible to the eye, and thus, don’t obstruct the driver’s vision.

No-Wiper Windshields

McLaren’s concept of a wiperless windshield is still a work-in-progress as of 2019, but we hope to see it on roads in 2020. These windshields won’t require any wipers to clean off liquids and ice. Using ultrasonic sound waves, they’re able to slide off any moisture as soon as it comes into contact with the surface.
