Since we’re talking about Ford, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the innovative car manufacturer has been testing out autonomous vehicles in Miami, Detroit, and Washington D.C since it announced their development in 2017.
The motor company made its single largest investments ever—of $1billion—in a startup company called Argo AI, which is dedicated to developing a virtual driver system for an autonomous car that’s said to come out in 2021!
Ford’s self-driving car won’t require a human driver to intervene at any time, and will operate without a steering wheel, accelerator, and even brakes.
To maximize user experience and safety, and to guarantee the success of the autonomous vehicle, Ford has also been conducting extensive research in radar technology, advanced algorithms, 3D mapping, and camera sensors in partnership with Civil Maps, SAIPS, Velodyne, and Nirenberg Neuroscience LLC. According to a report in Forbes, Ford has patented an entertainment system for its autonomous vehicle.
The cars that incorporate it will have screens and projectors that will turn the windshield into a movie screen. For an excellent user experience, Ford has also made the car seats adjustable, meaning that you’ll be able to slide back the front seats for a better view of the windshield movie screen. It’ll also allow you to sit back, stretch your legs, and relax while enjoying your favourite movie in your literal driving theatre.
The display would be able to fold up into the ceiling or transform into a smaller screen on the dashboard should the driver decide to take control of the vehicle at any point in the journey.
